COVID-19 Updates

TMEA music events and meetings scheduled from March 16th through 29th are to be suspended.
Decisions on the impact of COVID-19 on all future TMEA events and competitions will be communicated as they become available.

Teachers of grades K–12 in Texas public schools are required by law to provide instruction that covers 100% of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) applicable to each grade/level. Below are PDFs of each of the grade/level TEKS for music.

The TEKS help structure instruction around what the student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade/level, not how that instruction should be delivered. The TEKS are vertically aligned to provide for a cohesive curriculum from one grade/level to the next. Furthermore, the TEKS provide a consistent and sequential plan for student instruction and learning across the state. It is the responsibility of each district and its teachers to develop curriculum that will provide the basis for what teachers will teach and students will learn in the classrooms throughout the district.

Scope & Sequence Charts

The Center for Educator Development in Fine Arts (CEDFA) has published scope and sequence TEKS charts for each fine arts discipline. You can purchase a set of Music TEKS charts for $27.95 at
